About this street food tour
When the sun goes down, Forodhani Gardens on the Stone Town waterfront fills with grills and food stalls. It is fun and busy, and it helps to know which stalls cook to order and what to try.
Your guide takes you through Forodhani and into the lanes nearby for dishes locals eat: urojo, the tangy soup also called Zanzibar mix; Zanzibar pizza cooked on a griddle; skewers; and sugarcane juice pressed in front of you.

We choose busy stalls that cook to order and serve it hot. Stick to bottled water and peeled or cooked food.
What about Ramadan?
Evening markets are especially lively after sunset in Ramadan. Avoid eating in the street during daylight hours that month.
Is it vegetarian-friendly?
Partly. Zanzibar pizza, urojo and sugarcane juice have vegetarian options.
